This birdhouse is an artistic piece and if used outdoors we recommend that customers locate the birdhouse in a sheltered area and not fully expose it to outdoor weather. The item has a single coat of polyurethane but to extend the life span of the bird house we recommend sealing it (on the outside only) with a weatherproof, non-yellowing sealer and making sure the sealer is completely cured (1 week) before use.

Celestial Blue - 4 Pointed Leaf Birdhouse Story:
Celestial Blue is a Viking inspired wooden birdhouse - both an artistic piece and a practical. Being one of the first birdhouses I created for the Birdhouse Series meant a lot of learning to find the right techniques and processes to build them. The Birdhouse Series was created to give our avian friends a cool looking little pad to live in.
Celestial Blue is an A-Frame style house using a dragon scale pattern on the tall roof, 4 walls with a bird sized opening at the front and sits on a low base. A pale sky blue exterior paint finish on the walls, a earthy coloured roof with metallic highlights and a 4 pointed leaf motif both front and back to add that nature feel.
The Legend of Viking Haven:
In the ancient fjords of Scandinavia, where the sea meets the sky and the wind whispers tales of old, there lies a haven for weary travelers and valiant adventurers alike. Known as Viking Haven, this sanctuary stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Norsemen.
Inspired by the legends of these fearless seafarers, our Viking Haven Birdhouse embodies the essence of courage, resilience, and exploration. Its sturdy construction symbolizes the strength of Viking ships braving the stormy seas, while its Celestial Blue hue evokes the boundless skies that guided their journeys.
Embrace the spirit of the Vikings and invite nature into your backyard with our Viking Haven Birdhouse. It's more than just a birdhouse—it's a symbol of craftsmanship and adventure.
Creating the Birdhouse
I created the Celestial Blue Birdhouse my workshop in Auckland, starting with a 3D digital illustration. I then breakdown the box into parts and draw the parts up as a precision CAD file. The CAD file is sent to the CNC program where I make the cut files for the artwork. From the cut files I generate the g-code or CNC cutting code ready for the cutting process. The plywood is loaded on the CNC machine and the pieces are cut out using the g-code. The pieces are then inspected, sanded, assembled, sanded again, primed, painted and finally varnished.
As you can see there are many processes involved its creation and much of it is handcrafted making it a truly special and bespoke item.
