The All Blocks Story:
The All Blocks name is inspired by the New Zealand All Blacks.
The All Blocks are simple scrap wood robots which will all have a unique look and evolve over time. They use plywood to form the bulky body parts then they are dressed with whatever bits and pieces will make them look unique. The wood is shaped and sanded and finished with a combination of colours or varnishes.
The New Zealand All Blacks
The New Zealand men's national rugby union team, also known as the All Blacks, is one of the most successful and dominant teams in the history of the sport. The team has been playing international rugby since 1903 and has established a legacy of excellence and success.
Over the course of their history, the All Blacks have achieved many significant achievements, including winning the Rugby World Cup three times (1987, 2011, and 2015) and the Rugby Championship (formerly the Tri-Nations) 17 times since its inception in 1996. They have also won numerous other international rugby tournaments, including the Bledisloe Cup and the Steinlager Series.
The All Blacks have developed a unique and highly respected culture and tradition within the sport, which includes their pre-match haka and emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and excellence.
Throughout their history, the All Blacks have been blessed with many great players, including some of the most iconic figures in the sport, such as:
Creating the All Blocks
I created the All Blocks in Auckland, which manifested from the growing question about what to do with all the left over materials I had building up in my workshop. So, after a quick brainstorm I began the All Blocks series. Simple scrap wood robots which will all have a unique look and evolve in their design over time. They use plywood to form the bulky body parts then they are dressed with whatever bits and pieces will make them look unique. The wood is shaped and sanded and finished with a combination of colours or varnishes.
As you can see there are many processes involved making it a truly special and bespoke item.
